The longest waterfall in New Jersey, the
Great Falls
drop 77 ft. The National Park designation occurred in 2009. Prior to that it was a
National Historic Landmark District
.
Alexander Hamilton
was fascinated with the potential of the great falls, and together with the
Society For The Establishment of Useful Manufactures
helped to make the district around the falls an early American industrial success story.
Colt Mill
is also located on the site of the park. This is where
Samuel Colt
first created his repeating firearm in 1836.
