The longest waterfall in New Jersey, the Great Falls drop 77 ft. The National Park designation occurred in 2009. Prior to that it was a National Historic Landmark District. Alexander Hamilton was fascinated with the potential of the great falls, and together with the Society For The Establishment of Useful Manufactures helped to make the district around the falls an early American industrial success story. Colt Mill is also located on the site of the park. This is where Samuel Colt first created his repeating firearm in 1836.
